Here are a couple of photo's of my Teal Glow 1972 V6 Capri. It is a matching numbers Capri with only 125000 miles on the clock. The interior is in excellent unrestored condition. It was resprayed about 8 years ago in its original Teal glow colour. The V6 essex motor has loads of torque. It is a manual 4 speed, has original radio, a map light, centre console with clock, rear window venetian and fake side vents - it also has the optional driving lights with reproduction covers.

well we only had a turn out of 6 Capri's on this cruise, the smallest turn out by far. It was however a great day out and the scenery to Northam was much better than expected. We cruised down there at 8.30am and within the hour we were all on display at the minson st oval along with a variety of other classic cars. The racing action itself was a spectacle to see, I doubt there would be many places in Australia that you can get that close to the action. The cars varied from vintage to modern, open wheelers to ferrari's and jaguars and even a couple of shed builds. We cruised back to Perth at our own leasure at about 2pm

The next Perth Capri cruise has been organised. It will be a year to the day since our last cruise to the car museum at Gidgegannup so it is high time we had another one. This time around we plan on going to watch the "round the houses" vintage car races at Northam. A lot of you would have been there before but if not it basically involves lots of vintage/classic cars racing on a street circuit through the heart of Northam. Expect to see lots of escorts/mini's/cortina's not to mention a Capri or two. There are 24 races with over 100 cars registered to race, races start at 10am. There will also be lots of other family entertainment with most the streets being closed down for the festival. Check out :

Above is the map for the meeting point. As it shows, this meeting point is about 8 km east out of midland down Great Eastern Hwy, this way we avoid traffic lights and possible seperation. Its about another 80km to Northam - so make sure you give your car a check over before the cruise and get plenty of fuel. Meeting time is a little early at 8am for an 8.30 departure however this will get us to Northam approx 20 minutes prior to the first race and we may also beat any potential heat. Feel free to print out or forward on this map to any other classic small ford owners with cars such as Escorts, Cortina's and Anglia's

Perth Capri Cruise #4 - Sunday, 13th December 2009

Hi Everyone,

Well the forcast was definitely right for once - 39 degree's !, and i think we felt every bit of it on the way to Moore River.

We all met up at Drovers market car park at 9am and soon after headed north up Wanneroo road. It was about an 80km drive to Moore River and took close to an hour - but even the harsh summer's day couldn't claim any of the Capri's, none fell victim to the heat and we all cruised there trouble free.

The drive consisted mostly of long stretches of straight road - much better suited to the V6 and V8 Capri's, there was some nice scenery to be seen and not too much traffic - all in all a very nice cruise ! The turn out - as expected was quite small with only 8 Capri's. It was our smallest turn out yet but was still good to see some dedicated Capri heads there - especially considering the very hot conditions the day brought.

As for Moore River, i think the destination was excellent - the facilities there were great, the beach was superb and the waves were big enough to body surf on - I think i can speak for everyone and say it was very enjoyable day out. Check out the photo's below

HI everyone,

Well as promised here are the maps for the meeting point for the next Capri cruise. Just to make sure everyone is clear here is the situation...

For those of you who live South of the river (or close enough to meeting point 1) we will be meeting at the car park on Manning road at 8am, we will wait there for 15 minutes then leave the car park at 8.15am in order to meet up with the other Capri folk at meeting point 2 (refer map) I estimate it will take us about 30 minuted to get from meeting point 1 to meeting point 2. That should give us plenty of time to get there by 9am.

Leaving meeting point 2 at approx 9.15 we will head north up Wanneroo road to Moore river. It should take us approximately 45 minutes to get there. I have been told by a friend who has a house there that we need to get to the main BBQ area by 10am in order to get A. Parking B. a shady spot and C. a BBQ. The BBQ area is set right on the banks of the river and is only a 10 minute walk to the beach.

All in all, I don’t know what to expect as I haven't been there before, but I have been assured it is a very nice spot - I would suggest people take there bathers as the water may be very inviting if it’s a hot day. Also don’t forget to pack yourself some food for the BBQ (meat/salad/bread/drinks) or whatever you fancy - there is a deli close by if you prefer to buy.

I know this one is a bit late notice and it’s a busy time of year - but we do only get together twice a year so hopefully we will have another big turn out. For those who think this is a bit of an early start well the intention of this cruise was to go earlier in the day and depart Moore River shortly after lunch, say approx 1pm – therefore getting back to Perth early in the afternoon. This was decided as we realise most people have a very busy agenda this close to Christmas.

STOLEN CAPRI RS3100 LOOK-A-LIKE on 18/4/09

Sadly, I have to report the theft of this 1974 facelift Capri 2000GT (RS3100 lookalike) stolen overnight from Drumcondra in Geelong. She has twin headlights, black rear boot and RS spoiler, is finished in stand-out Yellow and is powered by a 2-litre V4 engine. If sighted please call the police immediately or Ryan, the cars owner, on 0438 014 044. Who knows, these stolen cars can easily end up interstate and it may end up here in Perth. As you know Capri's are very hard to replace these days - if they get stolen we need to get the word around as best we can.

Perth Capri Cruise #3 - Sunday, 29th March 2009

Well folks, the third Perth Capri Cruise is now in the books, all in all a great success. The turn out this time was a little down on the last time although we still had 16 cars in total including 4 Cortinas and a Corsair.

The day started at 10am and thankfully the weather turned out to be a lot milder than what was first forecast. We gathered at the meeting point and basically chatted and looked over the cars for an hour. 11 o clock came round and it was time to hit the open road.....all except for Tracy, who's car had problems with its imobiliser, this turned out to be the only gremlin of the day for the Capri's - although showing good form, she got the car running and met up with us an hour later - nice to see some good commitment :-)

Grant led the way this time and the convoy of retro classics was on the move. We drove up through the hills and through the Araluen estate, the roads there were tight and winding and were just what the doctor ordered. After losing our way once (does anyone read my maps ? ) and losing a couple of cars here and there, we finally arrived at the Jarrahdale pub and chowed down on the fine pub grub. It was a bit dissapointing that some folk didnt get there food for almost 2 hours, but sometimes these things happen and the cruise had to continue.

So unfortunately some parties were left behind and couldnt join us on the second part of the cruise - but we were still 9 strong with Capri's. So off we went from the pub and continued along the winding back roads and rolling hills, our second stop, the Churchman Brook reserve, went by extremely fast - infact so fast i can bearly remember it ! thats right, we had another glitch in our navigating and totally shot past it - i think most people saw it, but because the cruise just continued no one seemed to slow down or stop - a bit of a shame, but maybe we can go back there some other time.

It was great to see some new faces and cars there this time - if only we could get everyone there on the same day, we would be thirty strong at this stage !! Our next suggestion for a get together is at the All Ford day car show later on this year - I suggest we register as the Perth Capri club for this event and display all our cars together - we will post e-mails as the event draws nearer. In the meantime if anyone wants to volunteer to organise the route for the next cruise that would be great, as usual we dont mind making the maps as required. Check out the photo's below of the latest cruise.

Meeting Point for Perth Capri Cruise: Sunday, 29th March 2009

Hi all,

Well it’s been almost a year now since we all got together for the inaugural Perth Capri Cruise and time is growing nearer for the next cruise. The first cruise we had 12 Capris, the second we had 15, I think a nice round turn out of 20 or more would be great.

A special thanks goes out to Grant who took the time to organise the route for this cruise, it’s a slightly longer one (approx 120km) but hey – every so often we really have to stretch the legs of the old girls – just to keep them ticking over. The date for the cruise will be on Sunday, 29th March, making it exactly one year from the first cruise.

The general route this time will be from Maida Vale and heading off for some lunch at Jarrahdale, there is a nice café at Jarrahdale which provides a great lunch menu – so no need to bring BBQ stuff this time. From there, there will be two options – take the easy route and come straight home via Albany Highway or take Grant’s super hilly, winding, twisting route home……I know which one I’ll be taking!

We also thought it would be a good idea to have a bit of a Capri boot sale as well. Why not put any small spares you may have lying around at home in the boot of your Capri – once we are all parked up at Maida Vale in the morning it might be a good opportunity for members to find that elusive part they have been seeking or even do a swap for a part you have – so if you have spares you want to part with, simply prop up your boot!!

Well that’s it from me for now, you have 3 weeks to dust the cobwebs off the Capri and get that old Essex lump running like a fine Swiss watch again – if that seems like a distant dream why not get in contact with Kevin at the Capri Clinic and he can help you out one way or another http://www.capriclinic.com/.

Well Folks,

We’re only a few days away now from the 3rd Perth Capri Cruise and what better way to celebrate the 40th Birthday of this iconic car than a drive though the Aussie bush and to stop off at a British pub for a good feed. The Jarrahdale Tavern, which is approximately the half way point of our cruise has plenty of parking and offers a picturesque beer garden overlooking the Jarrah forest. The Pub grub on offer I’ve been told is second to none and should provide us with a good hour or so of food and drinks!!. Check out the link above.

Our second stop will be at the Churchman Brook Reserve this park has plenty of parking and hopefully plenty of shade. The car park is located right next to a large lake.

Don’t forget everyone, Sundays forecast is hot, so make sure you give your Capri a quick once over, check your water levels and pipes prior to the cruise, and also try not to forget any spare parts you may want to part with – we’ve had some positive feed back about this idea, so all we need now are the bits and pieces themselves. Even if the parts are slightly damaged it may just be what another member is looking for. We plan on having the Capri boot sale in the morning at the meeting point. Simply prop open your boot if you have any parts and people can browse at their leisure.

Well it’s nice to see there is such a strong following of Capri’s in Perth!! I think I can speak on behalf of everyone and say that the second Perth Capri Cruise was an even greater success than the first.

There was a strong turn out with 15 Capris in total – the great thing was to see that there were many familiar faces and cars but a good portion of new cars as well.

The day started at 10am at the Caltex petrol station on Toodyay Road, Volker and I arrived first followed by Kevin, and soon enough there was a throng of Capris rolling in. I think the owner of the petrol station was starting to regret not having Leaded petrol anymore! However his eyes soon lit up when he heard the thunder of Darryl’s Perana come rolling in (straight to the petrol pump though, I might add), Ahh the joys of the 4cyl car. It was also great to catch up with Bernie and the rest of the lads from his Cortina club, they arrived at the station at about 10.15am – at this time there were close to 30 retro Fords in the one place – A sight certainly to behold!

We pulled out from the station at around 10.30 and HIT THE ROAD!! – It was a great route (chosen this time by Volker) and a very special thanks should go to him for the effort he again put in to help organise this cruise. He also acted as the lead car to make sure no-one missed any turn offs by waiting at each corner, even Kevin didn’t get lost this time!

O’Brien’s road is a great winding road with lots of tight curves and open straights enough to keep all drivers happy; the scenery is also very pleasant! Our first stop was at Peter Brock’s memorial. By this stage, the temperature was almost 32 degrees – but luckily no ones car was over heating!
We all pulled in and took more photos and chatted – you guessed it…….Capris for a while. After spending half an hour talking we all drove off to satisfy our hunger at the designated BBQ area “Noble Falls”.
I drove at the back of the pack for this leg of the cruise and it was quite a sight to see all 15 Capri’s driving in a line over the hills and around the tight corners. I might also add, that there was a cheeky MK1 Escort Mexico which turned up – but we let it cruise with us as when it grows up it wants to be a Capri as well!!

Once we arrived at Noble Falls I think we destroyed the peaceful tranquillity of the place, the burble of a dozen V6’s was enough to scare a few people away, however once all the cars were parked next to each other, curiosity took hold and a few bystanders started walking up to and around the cars. Before you knew it, bonnets were up and it was quite a sight to see. Kindly once again Volker supplied plenty of tasty sausages and buns and we soon had the BBQ fired up and smelling of cooked onions.

We have had lots of positive feed back from this cruise, and welcome any more. If you have any ideas for our next cruise please e-mail me and let me know, it makes organising these events a whole lot easier and more pleasurable for everyone if I can get a better idea of what you would like to do.

By the end of the day the heat still hadn’t claimed any Capris!

15 Capris in a row

Hi all,

Hopefully everyone has been plucking away at their Capris over these past few cold wet months, as the next Perth Capri Cruise has been organised and is fast approaching!!

This route has been kindly organised by Volker.

I am pleased to say I have had lots of interest and visits to the blog and if all goes well we should have a few more numbers at this cruise, who knows, we may even reach the 20 mark!!

This route will take us into the Gidgegannup region along the infamous O'Brien Road - for those who don't know, this is where Peter Brock was killed in a car crash during the Targa West Rally in 2006. The route has some great scenery with some great twists and bends throughout, it also border's the Walyunga National Park.

This time around we have decided to make the meeting point closer to where the real cruise actually starts, in other words we won’t all get split up by fighting traffic and traffic lights through the suburbs and city - I think the meeting point on the map is pretty self explanatory, but if you're unsure drop me a line.
Our destination is the Noble Falls picnic area, this is a large area with BBQ facilities, walk trails and not to mention the waterfall close by. Another change this time round is everyone should bring their own food - so bring a few snags, drinks, and some salad and then kick back for a while and let’s talk Capris.

Just to give you a broad idea - the round trip from the city to our destination and back is approximately 120km.

So get polishing and fixing and make sure your Capri is ready to drive on Sunday 19/10/08.

Quinton's Capri is currently getting stripped right back for a nice new paint job.

He has fitted a straight 3 liter engine from a skyline and added an over size turbo giving his Capri a serious power to weight ratio. May be time to upgrade the brakes next !!

Hopefully everything is back together and running by the next cruise - he assures me it will be !

HOW ABOUT A BIT OF SOUTH AFRICAN MUSCLE !!!....

Hi everyone,

Just a quick note to introduce our latest member Daryl. Some of you may have met Daryl before at the All Ford Day (I think he parked his car next to Jenny’s 1600 GT)
Daryl is looking forward to meeting some more of us "Capri nuts"at the next cruise scheduled for some time in October '08.

His Capri is an original V8 Perana from South Africa, I believe there were approximately 500 of these built and probably very few left, there were also 30 V6 versions built which donned the Perana badge!! They came in 2 colours that I know off – Yellow (as shown above) and Peri Peri Red – please feel free to correct me on any of this information!!

For the real petrol heads out there, here are the specifics on Daryl's Capri :
It has the original 302w, 4 speed toploader and borg warner lsd diff. He is currently rebuilding the original block with: Forged pistons, 'H' beam rods, Aluminium Heads, Duel plane mainifold with 650 double pumper carby and headers.

Disaster has struck...

Well folks, what a difference a day can make, or a few months for that matter!! Check the photo of Craig's capri at the cruise held in March, that paint job was one day old!!

And look at it now :-(

Last night Craig was idling his car in his driveway (fortunately he went inside to lock up) whilst in the house he heard a loud bang coming from the capri - after rushing out all he saw was fire bellowing from under the bonnet!!

As you can see the damage is quite substantial - everything under the bonnet is toast, after speaking to him last night he believes a fuel line had ruptured and was dripping on the extractors causing the fire - although an assessor from Shannons will verify this some time today.

The good news is the car is insured so I'm sure the Capri will be back bigger and better.

Moral of the story is I guess if your car isn't insured then get in touch with Shannons - www.shannons.com.au and the other moral is keep up your general maintenance!
Particularly those with the V6! The fuel line can be close to the extractors and fuel lines can perish - so in the words of Molly Meldrum - 'do yourself a favour' and check your fuel lines are in good nick - to prevent this kind of incident happening again.

Hopefully Craig's capri will be back on the road for the next Cruise in a few months.

Fremantle Motor Museum Closing

Hi folks,

The management of the Fremantle Motor Museum have asked us to publicise the closing of the museum. Sadly they have not been able to negotiate a successful outcome to their venue problem, and one of the land's finest, award-winning car museums is to shut.

Sunday, April 20th will be the last day the museum will be open, so management has decided to offer everyone who goes along with a classic car, free entry to the museum on the last day.

It should be quite a sight, and provide a fitting farewell for a sad closure.

Well, I can safely say that the inaugural Perth Capri Cruise was a huge success - there was a dozen Capris that turned up (mostly MK1, and three MK3's)- not to mention a cheeky little Anglia :-) Nice one!

The car park at Manning resembled a scene from "Life on Mars" and by 10am we were on the road. The cruise was a short hour trip up the hills and through some nice winding roads to Mundaring Weir. We lost a couple of people on the way but most ended up at the destination for a BBQ and good old chin wag (Big thanks Volker for supplying the grub).

It was quite a sight driving up those tight winding roads in the hills with a dozen Capris all in a row. On route down the hills we took the well known "ZIGZAG" road which is also used in the Targa West Rally (known as the king of the mountain leg - after Brock's death in '07).

All in all everyone seemed to enjoy the day thoroughly and are all keen for another cruise.

I suggested making it a bi-annual event - that way all the people that turned up minus their Capris (i.e. Volker :-) will have enough time to get them back on the road where they belong!

Just for the record - no Capris fell victim to the warm day and the steep hills !! ....Oh, except for one dodgy clutch cable - but he still made it home.

PROGRESS REPORT:

1971 Mk 1 GT V6. I decided the 3L wasn't enough so am putting in a 302w/5L.
Will be street legal as going through an engineer like Volker. Am upgrading most things, 9 inch, roll cage, 5 stud 4WDisc brakes etc.
Engine is Gas research Twin Carb Twin Convertor with around 400hp but as it has taken so long to get it this far, technology has changed so may end up tinkering with Gas injection later? But for now, it's just sitting in the engine bay wrapped in glad wrap and filled with oil, waiting for someone to turn the key and unleash it.

The body has had a complete strip, blast and respray in factory Wild Plum.
I have it approved by the licencing dept with 4 link coil over shocks Rear suspension (with some tub changes to help fit the LPG and Shocks). Now I've just got to talk the engineer into signing off on it!
